Give five hundred agents a dollar each and let them trade at random, conserving every cent. No one is greedy, no one is robbed — each swap just splits a shared pot. And yet the flat start never returns: money relaxes into the same exponential law that energy takes among the molecules of a gas, a fair economy frozen at a Gini of one-half. Tilt the trade a little and it condenses onto a single agent — oligarchy as a phase of matter.

Every trade only moves money between two agents — the total is exactly conserved, like energy. A fair Δ relaxes to the exponential; a biased Δ (the loser always pays a slice of the poorer purse) condenses nearly all of it onto one agent — Bouchaud–Mézard oligarchy.

Money here is a conserved scalar, and that is the whole trick: like the energy shared among the molecules of The Arrow (INST·18), a randomly-traded conserved quantity relaxes to the Boltzmann exponential — so even perfectly fair exchange ends at a Gini of ½, inequality as equilibrium rather than injustice.
