Your Universe of Digital Possibilities
The edition’s last wait and its widest: a proton’s life, longer than the universe by twenty-four orders. You cannot wait it out, so you watch 10³⁴ protons at once — the exchange rate of every wait before it, made literal. The run may end with nothing, and the nothing is the finding. Then the camera pulls back and the ten waits pin onto one axis.
A crowd of N memoryless things, each with mean life τ, watched for a time T ≪ τ, loses about N·T/τ of them — so N protons for one year are worth one proton for N years. You cannot wait 10³⁴ years; you can watch 10³⁴ protons. And when nothing happens, the nothing is a measurement: zero events bound τ above ε·N·T/2.303. Every waitclock in the edition prints this exchange rate; here physics signs it.
The same memoryless law as every wait in the edition. For a watch far shorter than the life, a crowd of N loses N·T/τ — the line the exposure trade stands on.
Grand unification says matter is not forever; half a century of dark water says not yet. The bound is built entirely from nothing happening, counted. The Watched froze a decay by asking too often; this stage waits for one by asking 10³⁴ times at once. The Metastable taught the law; The Horizon holds the far end of the rail, where black holes evaporate.
